The George Institute for International Health
Background
The George Institute for International Health is working to develop solutions to the growing problems of heart and vascular disease, injury, mental illness and neurological diseases in the Asia Pacific region.
With its global partners, multidisciplinary faculty and worldwide programs, the Institute is uniquely placed to deliver health solutions into a diverse range of economic, ethnic and cultural situations in the Asia Pacific region.
Experience
Established in 1999 and affiliated with the University of Sydney and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, The George Institute aligns its research with global health priorities, ensuring that its focus is on the most pressing health issues. Since its establishment, The George Institute has launched research, policy development and training initiatives in over 40 countries, with the collaboration of more than 300 hospitals and universities worldwide. It has recently experienced substantial growth and now employs over 180 staff, most of which are based in the Institute's Sydney offices. In 2006, the Institute established permanent subsidiary Institutes in both China and India to enhance its on-ground research capabilities.
The George Institute's clinical trials activities are led by internationally renowned clinical researchers. All have senior appointments with The George Institute for International Health and The University of Sydney. As Principal investigators, the individual clinical research experience of these senior researchers averages two decades.
Capabilities
The George Institute is internationally recognised for running complex, large-scale clinical trials. This reputation has been earned through its design and management of some of the largest trials ever conducted, in diverse therapeutic areas such as diabetes and critical care medicine. Increasingly, it is providing contract research services to pharmaceutical and biotechnology. The Institute's research services operate to world best practice in quality, service delivery and ethics, the responsibility for which resides within our Centre for Research Management (CRM). In support of best practice, the CRM includes senior appointments from the pharmaceutical and contract research industries.
The Institute's clinical research operations provide clients with access to some key elements essential for the delivery of successful programs. With offices in Sydney, Beijing and Hyderabad to support its extensive operations throughout the Asia-Pacific region, the Institute can provide access to key opinion leaders in strategically important emerging markets. In addition to its clinical trial work, the Institute also conducts or participates in a range of population health research programs in Asia-Pacific countries, with particular emphasis on China and India, but also including Hong Kong, Vietnam, Thailand, The Philippines, Korea, and Malaysia.
